“Executive”

Data:

• Very nice looking stainless slide rule labeled “The Executive Slide Rule” at the end of the slide.
• Different names appear on the cases for the various specimens. However, these are unlikely to be the manufacturers. It appears that the rule was manufactured as a promotional item.
• Images from 3 Worthpoint listings: Amperex, Youngstown Steel, USS.
• Not to be confused with the Pickett Executive slide rule.

Questions:

1. Who manufactured the rule?
   One Worthpoint listing claims made for Youngstown Steel by Caliputer Co. Another listing shows “Caliputer” on the case. Andries de Man
   Caliputers are usually a slide rule-caliper combination, like the one in the Smithsonian. See also Panagiotis Venetsianos, JOS Vol. 23, No. 2, 2014 pg 43

   Who is Who in the West, 1996 pg. 253 lists “Thomas Pleasant Faulconer, aircraft and small ships consultant, retired engineering executive; b. San Diego, Apr. 7, 1912,” as “Pres. Jet Air Engring. Corp., San Diego, 1953-1955”, and “owner, licensor Caliputer Engring. & Sci. Instruments Co., 1962-69.”
   Compare the Who is Who info with Tina Cordon's Caliputer
   If the Executive Slide Rule was produced at the same time as Caliputers, we find the following:
   1955: Caliputer Patent US 2874478 applied by Thomas P. Faulconer, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
   1955: Caliputer made by Jet Air Engineering Corporation, San Diego, Calif.
   1956: improved Caliputer by Caliputer, P.O. Box 586, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
   1971: Caliputers still being advertised.
   1977: Caliputer Inc, Division of Sorrento Corp., 3388 Industrial Court Suite 3, San Diego, CA 92121, mentioned in NTRS, Information on the metric system and related fields, Nov. 1976, pg. 426 (but this might be old information) Andries de Man
