Data:
- Reiss Artillery with unknown gauge marks
Questions:
- What do the gaugemarks M 42,7m and H 2,133m represent?
M is shown as “Δx = 42,7m (formerly H·1910)” in the instructions on the back. Meine van Essen
2,1336 ± 0,00005m is the old Russian length unit сажень (sazhen', fathom) Meine van Essen
“Приборы стрельбы наземной артиллерии. Руководство службы”, 1939 shows a picture and description of the slide rule on page 52. It defined M as Δx on "non normalized" sights (Aufsatz, прице́л). And this means that Δx is 20 сажень compared to normalized with Δx = 50m. If ones sets M above H then by the way one gets the same series as with the normalised because H/M = 0.05 so the ratio as 1:50 though obviously the unnormalized sights used 1:20 which is seemingly much closer to later cannons and admunition combinations. So obviously in 1936 (date of the slide rule in the book) they've had a cannon ammunition combination with this ratio. And at least according to the book “Schießen der Artillerie Batterie/Abteilung” the detonation scale of the ammunition had the same Δx. Andreas Poschinger
